Manchester Business Club launches in Kuala Lumpur
By Michael Fahy
Executives from Marketing Manchester, inward investment agency Midas and from Manchester Airport launched the new Manchester Business Club initiative in Kuala Lumpur last week at the British High Commissioner's residence.
The club has been set up as a way of trying to bring in investment, jobs and long haul air routes into the city. Around 80 Malaysian businesse and organizations attended the first event, and a second is planned for Singapore in November this year. Member organizations have said that Mumbai, Los Angeles and New York are also planned as other targets.
The British High Commissioner for Malaysia, Boyd McCleary, described the first event as “a great success”.
“The business community of Kuala Lumpur have welcomed the Manchester Business Club initiative with the majority of the attendees registering to become members, demonstrating the importance of the ties between the two cities,” he said.
The initiative has been funded by the Manchester Air Services Development Fund partnership – an organization comprising Manchester Airport, Marketing Manchester, MIDAS and the Northwest Regional Development Agency.
