Greatest professional achievement: Masterminding the rapid growth of Godel Technologies, the small Belarus software company he bought and brought to Manchester in 2005.
Current goal: To develop new products and reinforce Godel’s reputation as a specialist in the areas of smart phones, medical applications and advanced mathematical modelling.
Terry Bland acquired Godel Technologies in 2005 after spotting a major gap in the market for a high-quality developer that understood complex mathematical and scientific concepts. Since then, Bland, a UMIST graduate with a first-class degree in engineering and a master’s in computer systems engineering, has transformed Godel into an international software firm focusing on the drug discovery, telecommunications and multimedia industries.
In its first year the Manchester Science Park-based company grew its turnover by 500 per cent and a further 300 per cent in its second. This year it is expected to have turnover of about £1m, up from £480,000 in fiscal 2007.
Prior to acquiring Godel, which now employs 45 people across three offices, one in the UK and two Belarusian development centres, Bland was, amongst other things, director of development at Knowledge Support Systems and a senior consultant at Cap Gemini where he helped design the website www.thetrainline.com.
